Producer Apologizes For 'Unprofessional Comment' About SLAYER Live DVD

August 17, 2004

Producer Kevin Shirley (IRON MAIDEN, DREAM THEATER) has posted a follow-up message on his web site apologizing for his "unprofessional comment" regarding the upcoming SLAYER live DVD, which he just completed mixing at a New York studio.

As reported here yesterday, Shirley's original statement about the DVD recordings was, "It's OK — some places it rocks hard, and others are a bit sloppy, but I'm sure they won't use the whole concert. It was tough to mix." He subsequently altered the original posting to read, "The rest of the week I finished mixing a live SLAYER set for a DVD, in stereo and surround, and it's great — it rocks hard, but it was tough to mix."

In a brand-new message posted on his web site, Shirley writes, "I want to put in writing that I am embarrassed with myself, and appalled that I let my emotions get the better of me, and my uncalled for and unprofessional comment about SLAYER should not reflect on the artists, but solely on me. There is nothing I can say to exonerate my unprofessional behavior. I don't know what I was thinking — suffice to say, sometimes strong emotions cloud one's view of the rest of the world. I am blessed in my life, but very occasionally, I am subject to bouts of depression, and don't care what anyone thinks. This was an occasion of a terrible lapse of judgement on my part. I apologize."

SLAYER's upcoming DVD, "Reign in Blood Live: Still Reigning", is scheduled for release on September 28. The disc will feature a full performance of the 1986 album "Reign in Blood" by all original members of the veteran thrash metal outfit. The DVD, recorded on July 11 in Augusta, Maine, will have an approximate 75-minute running time and will retail for $14.98.
